Hamlet The Clown Prince - from Saturday 2nd to Friday 8th
A bunch of clowns are putting on a show of Hamlet. They sometimes misinterpret the text, sometimes find new meanings in it, sometimes try and understand it and very often make a mess of it.
They chose to use some phrases from the play and mixed them with gibberish. They even edited the text, threw out some important scenes and made a mess of the order of things as if the pages got mixed up. But through all of this, they were simply looking for the essence of Hamlet and trying to find a context in our own times.
Art Park Bangalore - Sunday 3rd from 11.00
The first event in the series took place on 30 March 2014 involving 30 selected, eminent local artists who spent the whole day working at the venue so that interested members of the public could see, appreciate and understand artists’ varied methods of work and the artistic outcomes of their work. The day-long event will enable artists and the public to engage in critical conversations that can help lay people to develop a deeper understanding of art and artists across time, location and culture. In the process members of the public will be able to develop an awareness and appreciation of visual art, which can lead to a recognition of the power of creativity in constructing, defining and shaping knowledge.
The activities of Art Park Bangalore are meant to introduce the local public as well as tourists and other visitors to the city to the many art activities that regularly take place in Bangalore. An important purpose of the Art Park Bangalore initiative is to bridge the gap between visual art and the general public by providing a stimulating environment that provides the necessary exposure to contemporary visual art, fosters the creative spirit that exists in every individual, and challenges people to question themselves and find answers for themselves in contemporary art.
Art Park Bangalore has been conceived and designed as a cultural activity for the public, involving a range of artists in the city, including senior and well-known ones. This initiative is promoted by Samyojita Trust (®) with financial support from the Department of Kannada and Culture, Government of Karnataka.
Vir Das &the Alien Chutney - Saturday 23rd @ 21:00
Vir Das’ Alien Chutney is a comedy rock band from Mumbai, formed sometime around 2006. Fronted by comedian Vir Das (vocals), the band comprises Pozy Dhar (Tough on Tobacco) on guitar, Sidd Coutto (Helga’s Fun Castle, Zero, Tough on Tobacco) on drums, Kaizad Gherda (keyboards) , Gaurav Gupta (Tough on Tobacco, Ankur & The Ghalat Family) on guitar and Johan Pais (Tough on Tobacco, Ankur & The Ghalat Family) on bass. The group has performed sold-out shows across several venues in the country including Mumbai’s Blue Frog, Delhi’s Lodhi Gardens, India Habitat Center and on Star World’s New Year Special R.I.P.ping the Decade with Vir Das. Alien Chutney is currently working on recording their second album slated to release later this year. It is intended to be a high energy, comedy experience with strong musical chops.
Alien Chutney was a by-product of one of Vir Das’s comedy shows, ‘Walking on Broken Das’. Receiving favorable reviews for his attempt to combine and present comedy and music in his show, he decided to turn this into a full-fledged project. Today Alien Chutney regularly performs numerous shows around the country. Musically, the band creates and presents songs with bold lyrics in a variety of genres such as blues, punk, metal, pop and rock. They also indulge in improvisations, both in music and conversations among themselves and the audience. Their lyrical content takes a swing at a diverse range of topics, some of them controversial, but all in good spirit, of course.

An incessantly ringing cell phone in a quiet cafe. A stranger at the next table who has had enough. And a dead man with a lot of loose ends. So begins Dead Man's Cell Phone, a wildly imaginative new comedy by MacArthur ''Genius'' Grant recipient and Pultizer Prize finalist, Sarah Ruhl, author of the The Clean House and Eurydice. Do we memorialise the dead and how does that remembering change us? Here is a woman forced to confront her assumptions about morality, redemption and the need to connect in a technologically obsessed world.
Keys to India | Anil Srinivasan & Sharik Hasan - Thursday 7th @ 20.00
In a first of its kind, two top pianists of India who play different genres of music are coming together for a concert. Classical pianist Anil Srinivasan from Chennai collaborates with Bangalore’s own Sharik Hasan, the young jazz pianist.
“The unique idea of two pianos coming together bridging different musical traditions is a first of its kind anywhere in the country,” says Anil Srinivasan. “We will bring together our highly individualistic styles as a gesture towards cultural unity, towards bringing people, communities, religions and ideologies, closer.”
Anil Srinivasan is well known for having charted a path to bring the piano into Indian classical traditions and has collaborated and toured widely. Sharik Hasan is one of India’s top jazz pianists and at a young age, has already made a name for himself on the international stage.
