Trio Benares | Roger Hanschel, Deobrat & Prashant Mishra - Saturday 28th @ 21.30
Gravity has exerted a compelling force between Indian classical music and jazz for many decades - the push and pull of improvisation, the exciting rhythmic language. And Germany has always been at the forefront of such pioneering initiatives.
More reason to proudly present Trio Benares. Founded in 2014, Trio Benares features saxist Roger Hanschel, sitar vistuoso Deobrat Mishra and tabla player Prashant Mishra. The band explores this musical tradition, continuously venturing down new paths of rhythm, melody and pattern.
The Trio is currently working on their first album to be released later this year, and in the run up to the launch present their first pieces in three exclusive concerts: Bangalore, New Delhi, and Auroville.
Roger Hanschel As part of a seventh-generation musical family, sitar player Deobrat Mishra has reached a prominent place amongst his peers. Together with his nephew Prashant Mishra, a rising star among Indian tabla players, he forms a perfect unit.
Roger Hanschel, surely one of the most extravagant, multifaceted saxophone players and composers of contemporary jazz, communes with the sensual and brilliant sound of Deobrat Mishra‘s sitar. In turn, Hanschel‘s rhythmic finesse finds its equivalent in the virtuoso tabla playing of Prashant Mishra. While steeped in tradition, Trio Benares brings a freshness to both musical styles.

La guerre des graines | The seed war - Friday 27th @ 19.00
“La guerre des graines” (The Seed War) by Clément Montfort and Stenka Quillet – Fighting for food independence
Are seeds a commodity or a vital resource to be shared for the benefit of Humanity like the water we drink or the air we breathe ?
In the near future, farmers might lose the right to plant their own seeds. Indeed, in Europe, a regulation is emerging which will impose strict controls on the use of agricultural seeds. Behind this appropriation stand five corporations already governing half of the seeds market and looking to spread their stranglehold even further.
This film travels from India to France, and even the polar circle, to unveil a silent and unknown war whose outcome is critical for all of us, that of our food independence.
Followed by a conference debate with the filmmaker Clément Montfort.
The director, Clément Montfort went to meet all the actors of this “war”, from environmental activists (Vandana Shiva) to corporations (Monsanto) or European politicians. He will conduct a conference-debate on the matter.
