This unusual road movie tells the tale of Travis, a man lost in his own private hell. Presumed dead for four years, he reappears from the desert on the Mexico border, world weary and an amnesiac. Paris, Texas is probably Wim Wenders' best known movie, winning a number of international prizes including The Cannes Palme D'Or for Best Film in 1984.

Alice in the Cities I Wim Wenders - Tuesday 21st @ 17.00 at the NGMA

Phillip is a roving German reporter who, after a chance encounter with an elusive American woman, reluctantly accepts temporary custody of little Alice. Their friendship grows while travelling through various European cities on a search for the girl's grandmother. Inventive and witty, Wenders reflects on the influences of American pop culture on postwar Europe. Accepted to be one of Wenders' most poignant films Alice in the Cities subsequently won the 1974 German Critics Prize.

Bangalore International Short Film Festival - from Thursday 16th to Sunday 19th

Short filmmaking has its own form which is much different from feature films. Time, crispy story, essential shots contributes to make an impression on the short film. Short films are the attempts by the budding filmmakers where they show their talent and capability. The world today, has exposed us to this area of short films through festivals, where their work is appreciated and also the internet that offers visibility.

After the tremendous success that was BISFF 2017, we are all set to host the new edition from August 16-19, 2018. Just as every year, this is an attempt to understand the medium a little better and go a little further in inventing new forms of storytelling as filmmakers.

The festival showcases shorts from across the world, creating a physical space for a great audience experience and bringing together keen audience for the filmmakers. BISFF also exhibits movies packages from different parts of the globe to understand short filmmaking that today is viewed as an art form that needs a unique approach. Additionally the festival presents talks and panel discussions with leading thinkers and industry practitioners, enabling budding makers to interact with the best in the industry. BISFF also includes hands on learning experiences in workshops and demonstrations by professionals, putting together an exclusive audience experience and perhaps a space for makers to find what they are looking for.

Creative Journeys | M D Pallavi - Saturday 18th @ 18.30

Toto Funds the Arts and Goethe-Institut / Max Mueller Bhavan, Bangalore are delighted to invite you to Creative Journeys - a talk by celebrated singer, actor and filmmaker M D Pallavi.  

MD PALLAVI negotiates multiple artistic fields with ease. Trained in Hindustani classical music, she went on to win a clutch of awards for Best Playback Singer in the Kannada film industry and make a name for herself in theatre, television and cinema. Notable among her international stage performances are the hugely popular Boy with a Suitcase, which has toured all over India and Germany, and C Sharp C Blunt for which she won the Mahindra Excellence in Theatre Award for Best Actress. 

Pallavi’s anecdotal talk, illustrated with photographs and video clips, and interspersed with live singing, will describe her stage and screen career, from her national and international concerts and her musical collaborations to her acting, directing and screenwriting experiences.

This is the ninth talk in TFA’S Creative Journeys Series. Previous speakers have been Gieve Patel, Sunil Shanbag, Surupa Sen, Jitish Kallat, Sampurna Chattarji, Susmit Sen, Neel Chaudhuri and the Tadpole Repertory, and Jayant Kaikini

This Series provides a platform for both younger and more experienced writers, filmmakers, performing artists and visual artists to speak about the influences, impulses, processes and thinking that have shaped the art they produce.
