Voices of India - Friday 10th @ 18.30

IFA is happy to announce the launch of the "Archive of Indian Music" on May 10 at Alliance Francaise Bangalore at 6:30 pm. This archive is one of the outcomes of an Arts Research and Documentation grant to author Vikram Sampath. We part-supported his study on the impact of recording technology on South Indian classical music, specifically through a study of the efforts of women singers of the early twentieth century.
The launch will be accompanied by a week-long audio exhibition titled "Voices of India", which will feature audio recordings from 1902--when Gauhar Jaan, India's first artist to record her voice, made her debut on the phonograph--to the 1950s.
