Geographies of Memory | Politics, Boundaries and Oral History | Alexander von Plato - Thursday 14th @ 17.00

Does oral history enable us to present the human face of political decisions? 

Geographies of Memory: Politics, Boundaries and Oral History is part of the Winter School on Orality, Memory and Social Change of the Centre for Public History, Srishti School of Art, Design and Technology. German Professor and renowned Oral Historian Alexander von Plato will participate in the Panel.

German Professor and renowned Oral Historian Alexander von Plato (formerly Director, Institute of History and Biography, The Hague), who has worked on remembering National Socialism and World War II will be on the Panel of Geographies of Memory: Politics, Boundaries and Oral History.

Topic of the panel discussion is political decisions to divide countries or create internal boundaries have caused large-scale displacements across the world. The Partition of India that resulted in the creation of India and West and East Pakistan, now Bangladesh, has often been described as the greatest human convulsion of our times.

Apart from Dr. Plato, the panel includes: Miroslav Vanek (Charles University, Prague), Alessandro Portelli (Circolo Gianni Bosio, Italy), K. Lalita (Anveshi, Hyderabad), Meena Rukmini Menon (Action Aid, New Delhi), Deepa Dhanraj (Independent film maker, Bangalore), Indira Chowdhury (Centre for Public History, Srishti, Bangalore).
