Mahabharata Screening - Sunday 19th @ 11.00
BR Chopra’s Mahabharata did the incredible; it gave a voice to time. One fateful October morning in 1988, Harish Bhimani’s voice echoed through our living rooms declaring “Main samayhoon” and seduced us into a world of fantastical stories. The rest as they say, is television history. Today, how much of our nostalgia for it is about the story, the characters, the special effects and how much for the collective viewing ritual it became remains to be examined.
However, regardless of its many flaws, for those of us who spent our Sunday mornings glued to the television through those 94 episodes Mahabharata remains an important marker in our collective memory.
