Ashok Baweja has spent most of his 42-year career at HAL, where he joined as management trainee in 1970. He has worked in and led the Aero Engine Division, Corporate Business Development, Corporate Marketing and the Helicopter Division. He joined the board of HAL initially as the managing director for design development, and later became the company’s youngest chairman in 2004. He is credited with the development of the advanced light helicopter, intermediate jet trainer, upgrades to the Jaguar aircraft, Chetak and Cheetah helicopters, besides growing revenues for HAL from $1 billion in 2005 to $2.3 billion in 2009.
