Folk Festival - from Friday 8th
The first of its kind International Folk Festival is being organized by The Times of India in Bengaluru, a city rich in cultural heritage and a knowledgeable populace hungry for more. It begins on 8th August 2014 at the serene and picturesque lawns of the Jayamahal Palace and takes everyone through a kaleidoscope of folk and cultural extravaganza till the evening of 10thAugust 2014. It will showcase folk art forms from every part of India from Yakshagana, Gombeyaata, Purulia Chau, Satriya dance, Mallakhamb to Waee singers of Kutch, Gujarat and Mooralala Marawada, Sufiana Qawwali, OttanThullal and others; international folk troupes from Indonesia, Norway and Sri Lanka; an eclectic palette of film shows, panel discussions and talks, as well as exhibitions of crafts and wares of rural craftsmen, along with a delectable fare of Indian cuisine. Several eminent artists like Jnanapeetha awardees like Dr. Chandrasekhar Kambara and Dr. Girish Karnad, along with a royal family of Indonesia will participate in this prestigious festival.
