The White Rabbit | Uwe Jonas
What's that? A gigantic white rabbit under the flyover..? It didn't pop out of a hat for sure but it's there all the same. Observe as it changes and takes on the hues and textures of the environment where it has been discarded like so much else in our lives. What will be its fate?
The White Rabbit
One of the Bangalore's biggest problems is the individual traffic, not only making the city noisy, but creating pollution through emissions, dispersed dust etc. Walk around and you quickly get the feeling of being dirty. Everything that lies around seems old and worn out very soon. Trying to handle the ever-increasing traffic by building flyovers is not nipping the problem in the bud, but just worsens the air quality further.
Now the white rabbit comes into play: In its immense size of 12 feet by 6 feet, on first view this white rabbit resembles an elephant, or suggests a PR action by a nearby luxury mall.
This beautiful and pure state, a pleasant sight in the eyes of the car drivers passing by, will not last long though, because pretty soon the rabbit will be covered with dust and emissions, its fur will lose its shiny gloss and its colour will change from white to grey. The dirtier the rabbit becomes, the more it reveals its shape as a discarded, disposed or lost soft toy - always resembling something sad.
UWE JONAS was born in 1962 in Hamburg, studied political science and is a visual artist and curator in Berlin since 1993. He takes a conceptual, context-oriented approach with a focus on societal transformation phenomena, generally in public space. He runs a residency project in Berlin, Lichtenberg Studios (lichtenberg-studios.de), and till 2013 an independent gallery, Neues Problem (neuesproblem.de).

Hybrid Modernism | Movie Theatres in South India | Haubitz & Zoche - Friday 5th @ 18'30
New Theatres is emblazoned in large letters on the cinema building, whose facade suggests a collage of various materials and forms in the style of the late 1950s, while a spacious car park in front of the cinema waits for visitors.
The series Hybrid Modernism. Movie Theatres in South India examines the reception and re-interpretation of western architectural influences in South India. Haubitz and Zoche’s wonted sensitive approach and sharp observation disclose the aesthetic quality of these extraordinary buildings.

Surfaces et Profondeurs - Thursday 4th @ 19.00
It is interesting to note that these two artists who come from different countries wanted to walk on the surface of things and dig into the depths to create the mystery that spreads in the works of French photographer and the writings of the Indian poet. Between poetry and photography, between French and Indian culture, between surfaces and depths, the city of La Rochelle appears through the lens of Pascal Bernard and poetry Anupama Raju.
Chennai born Anupama Raju comes from a family of musicians. Her family influenced her in many ways but her passion lies in poetry. In 2002 she started writing poems and since then she has received various awards and recognitions.
Pascal Bernard, born in 1960, took interest in photography at the age of 12. Originally from La Rochelle in France, Pascal has been visiting India since “1977 and almost all states from Kerala to Kashmir are familiar terrain to him. all the symbols of India’s magnificent splendour fascinate this man who’s got a third eye, the eye of the camera.

The detuned television flickers grey, waiting to be flooded with colour, waiting for the image. Grey as no image, is a shrinking violet, shy and indecisive, caught in the shadows almost unnoticed. You can travel from it to black or white. Neutral, it does not shout its presence. Unlike red, which creates noise on video, this detuned grey is source of light, contradicting Wittgenstein’s remark that ‘Whatever looks luminous does not look grey.' — Derek Jarman, Chroma. A Book of Color, 1994
The C(h)roma Show will run until Thursday 11 December and will be open daily from 11am to 1pm and 7pm to 9pm.

The K Wind | Noreum Machi | New Wave Korean - Friday 14th @ 19.30
Korea’s award-winning new wave music group Noreum Machi will premiere in India bringing its mix of spectacular percussion, haunting shamanistic chants, and enchanting movement. Founded in 1993, Noreum Machi takes its name from a term used by Korean minstrels to indicate a combination of skill and timing, referring often to players so skilled no one dares follow them. Critics and audiences have called Noreum Machi a fascinating and future-oriented ensemble because of the way the artists connect with the audience, their obvious pleasure in performing and the emotions they share as they move between tradition and modernity. Noreum Machi artistically transforms traditional Korean music into something that is resoundingly contemporary.
Noreum Machi has performed in Brazil, Canada, Italy, Germany, Spain, Austria, France, Belgium, Poland, Saudi Arabia, Oman, Morocco, Indonesia, the Philippines, Australia, Japan, and more.

Ruchira Das - Tuesday 18th @ 19.00
Ruchira will talk about her journey in the arts which began as a student, organising concerts and performances. Later on, she quit her job as a chartered accountant to follow her heart and explore the world of the arts further. As she was homeschooling her children, she saw herself sharing experiences and engaging them in artistic activities. She then decided to launch Think Arts to extend these experiences to other children as well. The evening will also be interspersed with interesting tales from her travels, including a five-week trip this summer across festivals in Europe - Ruhrtriennale in Germany, Edinburgh festival in the UK, Ibsen festival in Norway and a few others where she wrote a blog to share her experiences with her children. She will also speak about her latest project which invites children to create an installation of their own.
Ruchira Das is an arts administrator who quit her Chartered Accountancy career to become an educator in the arts. In 2013, she launched Think Arts to present and produce imaginative and out-of-the-box art experiences for children through performances and workshops.
